Adler number: epsilon,2078
Translated headword: went in upon
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning he/she/it] came in upon.
Greek Original:
Ἐπέσβη: ἐπεισῆλθεν.
Notes:
= Synagoge epsilon615 (Lexica Segueriana 227.25), Photius epsilon1434 Theodoridis (although see note below).
The transmitted headword ἐπέσβη is not attested (in pre-Byzantine writers) outside lexicography, although Thucydides twice employs a different form of the same compound, ἐπεσβαίνοντες (2.90.6, 4.14.2); and cf. ἐπεσέβαινον in Cassius Dio 48.37.3. Theodoridis on Photius s.v. obelizes it and supports one of the Synagoge's readings, ἐπέβη , which he suggests might be quoted from Demosthenes (1.12 or 19.311).
