[Meaning he/she/it] used to reproach, used to blame.[1] "And as for him, nobody who had ever been one of his friends used to call him out either on his excuses for his sloth, nor on any of the degenerate postponements in his affairs, nor on the insouciance that sprang from his indolence or cowardice. He, though, used to call out many of his friends on such charges."[2] Meaning used to reproach [them].
And elsewhere: "they used to call him out as a destroyer of the youth, even labeling him a speaker of obscenities."[3]
Notes:
[1] For this verb cf. epsilon 2349, epsilon 2350, epsilon 2351. Its third person singular imperfect, here, is presumably extracted from the first quotation given, though there are earlier instances, one of which (Lucian, Phalaris 1.2) generated scholiastic glossing.
