[2] Polybios fr. 145 Büttner-Wobst. Büttner-Wobst notes (145) that Casaubon attributed this fragment to Polybios and that Schweighäuser associated this fragment with the action described in 38.19, i.e. the fall of Carthage in 146 BCE; cf. sigma 73. Büttner-Wobst brackets the words "both the Romans and the Carthaginians" (ibid.). Walbank agrees (720) with Schweighäuser that this fragment probably pertains to Scipio's siege of Carthage and, in particular, his attempt to blockade the city by constructing a mole across the harbor entrance (718-719). Walbank points out that at the north end of the mole, and rising near the south-east corner of the city, was a hill from which the Romans launched (failed) attacks on the city and that seems to correspond to the mound (xw=ma) referred to in the fragment (ibid.).
