E.A. Sophocles cites e)ckousei/a [sic] from the Suda, as equivalent to e)ckousati/wn, that is Latin excusatio. His Lexicon also has a lemma for e)cskousa=tos: "incorrect for e)ckousa=tos." Here in the Suda, alphabetical order appears to guarantee the spelling with the superfluous sigma (which is in fact quite widespread elsewhere for Latin ex- words), though the manuscripts as reported by Adler offer several variants.
