[Meaning a] moist sweetmeat made out of olive[-oil].
Greek Original:
Enkris: glukasma ex elaiou hudares.
Notes:
Same entry in Hesychius, Photius and elsewhere. Connected by Latte with Exodus 16.31 LXX; see also Numbers 11.8.
Such a thing was eaten by the Greeks as well as the Jews. Some of the lexica also have an entry for the nominative plural, notably Hesychius epsilon261, which Latte regards as stemming from Epicharmus; also, in any event, in Attic comedy (and Stesichorus).
Keywords: comedy; daily life; definition; food; poetry; religion
