Headword: *diabou/lomai
Adler number: delta,510
Translated headword: I thoroughly wish
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] I will convince. Thucydides [sc. uses the word].
Greek Original:
*diabou/lomai: a)napei/sw. *qoukudi/dhs.
Notes:
Likewise in Photius (and ps.-Zonaras). However, the headword verb does not occur in Thucydides -- as first noted by F.L. Abresch (1699-1782) -- and is in fact unattested anywhere outside lexicography; it is also missing from LSJ.
'Thucydides' may of course simply be an error. But if not, the headword itself -- for another verb which does occur in this author -- must be faulty (and is indeed obelized in the editions of Photius). Given the gloss, one might think of the future tense of uncompound bou/lomai: see e.g. 5.106, 6.40.1, 6.86.5, 8.48.5.
