Headword: *dedica/menoi
Adler number: delta,149
Translated headword: having made fearful; fearing
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning they] having been frightened.
Greek Original:
*dedica/menoi: fobhqe/ntes.
Notes:
Likewise in other lexica. The headword is aorist participle of dedi/ssomai or (Attic) dedi/ttomai, in the masculine nominative plural.
cf. generally delta 147 and the other cross-references there.
The present entry glosses the headword as passive. In the only extant instances outside lexicography it has an active sense (e.g. Plutarch, Cato Minor 43.7, and several times in Procopius, e.g. Wars 2.21.19, 2.26.16, 5.22.25, 8.28.2, Anecd. 5.12; also Theodoret). So either the present headword is cited from somewhere else or the lexica have misconstrued it.
Keywords: definition; dialects, grammar, and etymology; historiography
