Translation:
The rational and cognitive part of the soul is divided into intellect, thought, opinion. So opinion is concerned with the common among the sensible things; for it knows that "white" [is] discerned by means of sight, and that all men [are] biped. Moreover, it knows the conclusions of intelligible things without a rational account. For instance, it knows that the soul [is] immortal, but why [this is [it knows] no further. Consequently both the common in sensible things and the conclusions of intelligible things are matter of opinion. And this is opinion, cognition. But opinion does not know any further why the soul [is] immortal. For this is a task of thinking. Hence Plato also defines correctly opinion in the Sophist when saying that it is "the result of thinking",[1] for thinking did infer that the soul [is] immortal, but opinion knows only the conclusion. However, thinking is able to accomplish a certain method passing from a premise to a conclusion; and from it thought has derived its name as well.
