Headword: *do/mor
Adler number: delta,1357
Translated headword: domor
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[no gloss]
Greek Original:
*do/mor.
Notes:
Comparable entry, according to Adler, in the Ambrosian Lexicon (920). This enigmatic unglossed headword is otherwise unattested, but compare Hesychius delta2182, do/mortis: gunh/, and especially ps.-Herodian, do/mortis: gunh/ tis. The latter suggests (to DW) that the Suda's headword is a variant of, or error for, da/mar "wife/woman".
Another possibility for the headword is that it is Laconian -- displaying rhotacism -- for do/mos (delta 1358).
Keywords: dialects, grammar, and etymology; gender and sexuality; women
