Headword: *dikhtropei=
Adler number: delta,1099
Translated headword: punishes by expulsion
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning he/she/it] banishes.[1]
"But sometimes even justice brings harm."[2] Meaning [brings] a sentence.
Greek Original:
*dikhtropei=: fugadeu/ei. a)ll' e)/stin e)/nqa xh) di/kh bla/bhn fe/rei. a)nti\ tou= katadi/khn.
Notes:
[1] Third person singular, present indicative, of dikhtrope/w; same glossing in Photius. The verb is otherwise unattested and is of uncertain meaning. In Hesychius the corresponding lemma is a two-word phrase di/kh| tre/pei "turns to/by justice" [?], presumably quoted from somewhere.
The glossing verb fugadeu/w is usually transitive, but sometimes intransitive ("live in banishment").
[2] Sophocles, Electra 1042 (web address 1); no connection with the headword except the mention of di/kh.
