Headword: *di/qurson
Adler number: delta,1033
Translated headword: double-thyrsus
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
Arrian [writes]: "the double-thyrsus, the spear and the anklet, with which she freely raved, whenever she went to Dionysus".
Greek Original:
*di/qurson: *)arriano/s. to\ di/qurson, to\ logxwto\n kai\ to\ perisfu/rion, oi(=s a)ne/dhn e)ba/kxeuen, o(/t' e)s *dio/nuson e)foi/ta.
Notes:
Ineptly transferred from alpha 2220, where material from Arrian precedes this quotation from the Greek Anthology (6.172.1-4); cf. lambda 665, pi 1316. See Page (326-328) and further excerpts from this epigram, the dedication of a Bacchante to Dionysus, at eta 415 and nu 125. As Page notes (327), the headword's meaning is obscure; scholarly guesses as to what special kind of thyrsus (cf. theta 613) is referred to here (e.g. "two thyrsi" and "doubly-pointed thyrsus") do not seem plausible.
Entry lacking, Adler reports, in mss FV.
