Headword: Χρείειν
Adler number: chi,466
Translated headword: to avail against; to wound
Vetting Status: high
[Meaning] to strike.
Greek Original:
Χρείειν: τύπτειν.
The transmitted headword, χρείειν , is puzzling. It would seem to be the present active infinitive of χρείω , but the gloss fits the meaning of χρειόω , the infinitive of which would be χρειοῦν . Valckenaer and Ruhnken proposed that the headword read χρίειν , from χρίω ("anoint [cf. chi 470]; prick, wound").
