Translated headword: to advance; to progress
Vetting Status: high
[Meaning] to march,[1] to set out. "[...] but to advance and to join in dying at the attempts of the matters."[2]
"With matters in Sicily not progressing for him in accord with his intention (instead of how they were), because the leadership in evidence over the cities was not royal but tyrannical."[3]
Also [sc. attested is] xwrw=; [used] with an accusative.[4]
Greek Original:

The headword infinitive is presumably () extracted from the first quotation given.
[1] cf. Hesychius chi869.
[2] Quotation (transmitted, in Adler's view, via the Excerpta Constantini Porphyrogeniti) unidentifiable. Adler notes the proposed emendation of its opening a)lla/ to a(/ma by Gilbert Wakefield (1756-1801), notorious for his 'passion for tampering with the texts of the Classics' (J.E. Sandys, History of Classical Scholarship 2.430).
[3] Adler simply notes here Bernhardy's realisation that this passage concerns Pyrrhus of Epirus. In fact it begins the longer quotation from Dionysius of Halicarnassus given at pi 3232; cf. Favuzzi [cited under alpha 1518] 58.
[4] i.e. the same as the headword but transitive. The sense is contain/hold; see LSJ s.v. xwre/w, III.
