Notes:
Adler reports an identical entry in the Ambrosian Lexicon.
This word appears in a list of objects on a papyrus recovered at Oxyrhynchus, POxy.521.13, dating from the early second century CE. *Ba/dillos transliterates the Latin word batillus. LSJ s.v. (web address 1) translate it as 'shovel', which is its best-attested meaning (in e.g. Varro and the elder Pliny); but see also Lewis & Short s.v. batillum or vatillum (sic: normally neuter) for Horace, Satires 1.5.36, where it means something like a chafing-dish or incense-pan (see web address 2).
