Headword: Αἴρασθαι
Adler number: alphaiota,279
Translated headword: to lift
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] to bring.[1] Cratinus in Trophonios [writes]: "not to lift food, not to obtain one's allotment of sleep."[2]
Greek Original:
Αἴρασθαι: προσενέγκασθαι. Κρατῖνος Τροφωνίῳ: οὐ σῖτον αἴρεσθ', οὐχ ὕπνου λαχεῖν μέρος.
Notes:
Same entry in Photius and elsewhere
[1] The headword is an aorist middle infinitive, more correctly ἄρασθαι than the Suda's αἴρασθαι . (Theodoridis on Photius s.v. obelizes it). The quotation from Cratinus -- see next note -- appears to have the present middle infinitive αἴρεσθ' , but other lexica have alternatives. For the verb ἀείρω or αἴρω , cf. alphaiota 280, alphaiota 281, alphaiota 283, alphaiota 284, alpha 635, alpha 638.
[2] Cratinus fr. 218 Kock, now 233 K.-A.
