Headword: *ai)/rasqai
Adler number: alphaiota,279
Translated headword: to lift
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] to bring.[1] Cratinus in Trophonios [writes]: "not to lift food, not to obtain one's allotment of sleep."[2]
Greek Original:
*ai)/rasqai: prosene/gkasqai. *krati=nos *trofwni/w|: ou) si=ton ai)/resq', ou)x u(/pnou laxei=n me/ros.
Notes:
Same entry in Photius and elsewhere
[1] The headword is an aorist middle infinitive, more correctly a)/rasqai than the Suda's ai)/rasqai. (Theodoridis on Photius s.v. obelizes it). The quotation from Cratinus -- see next note -- appears to have the present middle infinitive ai)/resq', but other lexica have alternatives. For the verb a)ei/rw or ai)/rw, cf. alphaiota 280, alphaiota 281, alphaiota 283, alphaiota 284, alpha 635, alpha 638.
[2] Cratinus fr. 218 Kock, now 233 K.-A.
