Translated headword: sharp

Translation:
[sc. A term applied to] the whetted sword.
Greek Original:
*)/ahkes: to\ h)konhme/non ci/fos.
Notes:
Same entry in ps.-Zonaras and, according to Adler, a comparable one in the Ambrosian Lexicon.
The headword adjective, neuter singular, is otherwise unattested. Hesychius has an entry, eta292, for hkes (left unaccented in Latte's edition), with the gloss o)cu/ ("sharp") h)\ h)=lqes ("or, you came"). This could suggest that the Suda's a)h/khs means "not sharp", but the glossing (cf. alpha 922) contradicts this. Presumably, therefore, the initial alpha is not privative.
