Interestingly, in light of what he says below, the lexicographer seems to understand the word a)fh=lic here as 'superannuated', which suggests that the reference is to the allegedly feeble-minded Arrhidaios rather than to the son of Rhoxane, as Jacoby seems to take it, citing Curtius 10.6.21 (the speech of Meleagros): nec vero interest, Roxanes filium, quandoque genitus erit, an Perdiccan regem habeatis, cum iste sub tutelae specie regnum occupaturus sit. It is possible that the decontextualized quotation that follows ("one a youth, the other more superannuated") refers also to the unlikely pair of successors, the baby and the booby, for whom Perdiccas and other generals served as protectors, though that is perhaps excluded by the use of the term neani/as for the younger of the pair. This term generally applies to a more advanced stage of childhood than Alexander IV ever attained.
