Adler number: alpha,4393
Translated headword: unwounded, invulnerable
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] unsuffering, unharmed. "But he remained [sc. more] unwounded by such experiences than Ajax [was] by a sword."
Greek Original:
*)/atrwtos: a)paqh\s, a)sinh/s. a)ll' e)/menen a)/trwtos u(po\ tw=n toiou/twn paqw=n h)\ o( *ai)/as u(po\ sidh/rou.
Note:
Identical entry (apart from the two glossing synonyms being in the opposite order) in Timaeus' Platonic Lexicon. The quotation, otherwise unattested in this precise form, is surely an approximation of Plato, Symposium 219E "[Socrates] was far more invulnerable to money than Ajax [was] to a sword." (For Ajax see generally alphaiota 9; he was reputed to be invulnerable, but nevertheless died by his own sword; cf. alpha 4293.)
