Notes:
[1] Greek Anthology 7.204.5-6 (Agathias Scholasticus), here misquoted: it should be "I snatched". This poem is addressed to a partridge which has had its head bitten off. Find further excerpts from this epigram at alphaiota 159, eta 513, theta 15, and mu 715. Agathias continues the story in Greek Anthology 7.205, where it is revealed that the cat is female; cf. omicroniota 64.
