Headword: Ἀνοιμωτί
Adler number: alpha,2777
Translated headword: alaslessly, without moaning
Vetting Status: high
[Meaning] groanlessly. Also [sc. attested is] ἀνοιμώξατε ["you cried oimoi"], [meaning] you wailed aloud.[1]
Greek Original:
Ἀνοιμωτί: ἀστενάκτως. καὶ Ἀνοιμώξατε, ἀλαλάξατε.
The headword adverb literally means without cries of oimoi, the Greek equivalent of "alas" (see omicroniota 101, and cf. omicroniota 102. In the form ἀνοιμωτί it is attested only here and, according to Adler, the Ambrosian Lexicon; but ἀνοιμωκτεί occurs in Sophocles, Ajax 1227.
[1] Besides here, this form is attested only in (and is perhaps, therefore, quoted from) John Chrysostom, Quod regulares feminae viris cohabitare non debeant 2.62.
