Headword: Ἀντριάσι
Adler number: alpha,2766
Translated headword: for those of the grotto
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] for those who are fond of grottos.[1]
"So that I might be the plaything of the shining [nymphs] of the grotto".[2]
Greek Original:
Ἀντριάσι: ταῖς τοῖς ἄντροις φιλοχωροῦσιν. ὄφρ' εἴην λιπαρῶν παίγνιον Ἀντριάδων.
Notes:
[1] Feminine dative plurals. The noun implicit is "nymphs", as in the quotation which follows here; and in fact the headword too is surely quoted from that same epigram (line 3).
[2] Greek Anthology 6.224.6 (Theodoridas); on a shell found at the seashore, dedicated to Nymphs; cf. Gow and Page, vol. I (192) and vol. II (541); cf. further extracts from this epigram at alpha 346, lambda 11, and pi 952. On the feminine noun ἀντριάς (grotto dweller), here in the genitive plural, see also Phrynichus, Praeparatio sophistica 27.3 and Gow and Page (ibid.).
