Adler number: alpha,2174
Translated headword: Andrians
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning men] from Andros.
Greek Original:
*)/andrioi: e)k th=s *)/androu.
Notes:
Same entry in ps.-Zonaras; similar one, according to Adler, in the Ambrosian Lexicon.
Andros is one of the Cyclades, just south-east of Euboea; OCD(4) s.v. (p.88). (Andros does not have its own Suda entry, but see also under sigma 107 and tau 165.)
If the present headword (nominative plural) is quoted from somewhere, the possibilities include one in Herodotus and three in Thucydides; Thuc. 7.57.4 is likeliest, as it generated scholiastic comment.
Keywords: definition; dialects, grammar, and etymology; geography; historiography
