The headword Ammoritis is attested only here, whether as a toponym or anything else. Perhaps [NF] in Egypt, and a confusion with the Siwa Oasis, also known as Ammon (present-day Aghurmi) or with Paraetonium (present-day Mersa Matruh) also known as Ammonia. Alternatively [DW] an error for Ammonitis, i.e. connected with the ancient Ammonite people of the OT, who inhabited the area east of the River Jordan.
