Headword: Ἀλεύετο
Adler number: alpha,1148
Translated headword: was avoiding
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning he/she/it] was escaping.
Greek Original:
Ἀλεύετο: ἐξέφευγεν.
Note:
The headword is transmitted as an (otherwise-unattested) imperfect, as if from ἀλεύομαι . However, it should surely be an aorist, ἀλεύατο , from ἀλέομαι (LSJ entry at web address 1). See ps.-Zonaras s.v., glossing with the aorist ἐξέφυγεν , and also Hesychius alpha2899, glossing with ἐξεκλίνεν . The source, noted by Latte there, is Homer, Iliad 3.160; see the scholia thereto.
