This man was an Egyptian philosopher, who joined Marcus [sc. Aurelius], the emperor of the Romans, the philosopher. On one occasion, when the Romans were suffering from thirst, [the story goes that Arnouphis] suddenly created and summoned up dark-coloured clouds and let loose heavy rain along with thunder and lightning bolts one after another. And this [they say that] by some skill Arnouphis achieved. But others assert that it was Julian the Chaldean who made this miracle.[1]
