[1] Same glossing in other lexica. The headword is either masculine accusative singular or neuter nominative/accusative singular of this adjective. Either way, it must be quoted from somewhere; there are numerous possibilities.
[2] The point about the spelling differentiates it, implicitly, from the ei versions of the verb; cf. alpha 3116, alpha 3117. Besides the epigram about to be quoted, see Homer, Odyssey 23.369.
[3] That is, it has a circumflex accent on the final syllable; we call it a contract verb.
