Headword: Antallagma
Adler number: alpha,2605
Translated headword: exchange-token
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] the ancestors of Christ in the flesh, whom the 70 interpreters[1] called 'footprints' and 'exchange-token'.
Greek Original:
Antallagma: hoi kata sarka progonoi tou Christou, hous ichnê kai antallagma ekalesan hoi o# hermêneutai.
Notes:
Theodoret (PG 80, 1597b) on a phrase ('the exchange-token of your Christ') in Psalm 88.52 LXX; also at iota 789 and tau 721. 'The footprints of your Christ' (or 'of your anointed one') seems to be an alternative reading there, noted by Theodoret.
[1] Only here and in the two related entries (above) is the Septuagint referred to in this way in the Suda; compare simply 'the 70' at epsilon 542 and omega 182.
