Adler number: upsilon,746
Translated headword: boasting, lofty-speaking
Vetting Status: high
"[Of them] both threatening and lofty-speaking."
Greek Original:
*(uyhlologou/menoi. a)peilou/ntwn te kai\ u(yhlologoume/nwn.
The unglossed headword is the present participle of u(yhlologe/omai, in the masculine nominative plural. If it quoted from somewhere in this form, the only other extant instance occurs in the Homilies of Asterius. More probably, though, it is generated by the unidentifiable quotation given (transmitted, in Adler's view, via the Excerpta Constantini Porphyrogeniti), which has the genitive plural.
The verb itself, though characteristic of late writers, is first attested in Plato, Republic 545E.
