Headword: *perierga/zesqai
Adler number: pi,1123
Translated headword: to take excessive trouble about [something], to be meddlesome
Vetting Status: high
[Meaning] to prevail.[1]
"Being meddlesome about the houses, in which they used to come together and assemble, [he] had met with them."[2]
Greek Original:
*perierga/zesqai: perigenh/sesqai. o( de\ periergasa/menos tou\s oi)/kous, e)n oi(=s suntre/xontes e)kklhsia/zousi, tou/tois sune/sxhken.
[1] The headword is present infinitive of perierga/zomai. Gaisford showed that this glossing comes from a misreading of a source: in Photius' Lexicon [now pi674 and pi676 Theodoridis] this perigenh/sesqai glosses perie/sesqai (as at pi 1130) while the gloss for perierga/zesqai is polupragmonei=n.
[2] A dubious fragment of Damascius, Life of Isidore: fr. 394 Zintzen (298 Asmus).
