Greek Original:
*kateriqeuome/nou: to\ d' e)nanti/on kateriqeuome/nou tou= basile/ws kai\ th=s xw/ras a)pexome/nou kai\ kata\ th\n dikaiodosi/an e)cakribou=ntos e)pimelw=s, e)/laqon e)kluqe/ntes tai=s dianoi/ais, katoligwrh/santes th=s e(autw=n a)sfalei/as.
The headword, evidently extracted from the quotation given, is present participle, masculine genitive singular, of the otherwise unattested verb kateriqeu/omai. LSJ s.v. translate it, as here, 'overcome [sc. someone] by intrigue', i.e. middle rather than passive; cf. e)riqeu/omai (epsilon 2985), e)ceriqeu/omai (epsilon 1647).
[1] Bernhardy added kai\ "and" at this point.
[2] [Polybius] fr. 173 Büttner-Wobst (authorship (and personnel) unknown). Büttner-Wobst notes (537) that Valesius (Henri de Valois 1603-1676) attributed this fragment to Polybius. However, Büttner-Wobst doubts the attribution, following Schweighäuser, who rejected the fragment (ibid.)
