The identity of this bird is obscure; cf. Hesychius kappa2729 (s.v. kindapsoi/) who defines the word (in the plural) as "birds and kithara-like instruments and (?)Indians". The musical instrument also occurs as skindapso/s in Hesychius (e.g., s.v. bli/turi) as well as in the Suda: cf. sigma 609, beta 335.
