Headword: *geioko/mon
Adler number: gamma,216
Translated headword: land-cultivator
Vetting Status: high
[Meaning] a neighborhood.
Greek Original:
*geioko/mon: to\ geitni/ama.
The headword occurs only here and, earlier, in Hesychius (gamma268), but is differently understood by each lexicographer. Hesychius evidently takes the headword to be the accusative case of a masculine noun geioko/mos, meaning "one who cultivates land" (as it ought to, considering the paroxytone accentuation). The Suda's neuter singular gloss geitni/ama belongs with a later entry, geito/nhma, in Hesychius. This looks like a slip on the Suda's part.
