A proper name.
Greek Original:
*diabhno/s: o)/noma ku/rion.
Attested as such only in lexicography. Perhaps a truncated form of *)adiabhno/s, an inhabitant of Adiabene - present-day Halab - in Mesopotamia; see under alpha 470 (and note that Adiabene itself is occasionally found in the acephalous form Diabene). Note, nevertheless, the Orthodox Calendar observance, on 9th September, of 'the Venerable Theophanes the Confessor and Faster of Mt. Diabenos' (died. c.300); this mountain is elsewhere called Dabis.
