Translated headword: with poles running through rings
Vetting Status: high
[Meaning] with bearing-poles [intended] for raising up [things].
Greek Original:
*diwsth=rsin: a)naforeu=si toi=s a)nabasta/zousin.
= Synagoge delta330, Photius delta691; cf. Hesychius delta2059, where one finds the first word of the gloss without the subsequent qualification.
The headword is the dative plural of the rare masculine noun diwsth/r. The noun is attested as a surgical instrument, for pushing out weapons etc. (see LSJ), but this dative plural form is only attested -- outside lexicography -- at Exodus 38.4 & 10 LXX, where it does mean 'poles running though rings' (for transporting the Ark).
