Headword: *)/anemos
Adler number: alpha,2258
Translated headword: air, wind
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] the breath[1] of the wind. And the element, in which the wind blows.
Also [sc. attested is the diminutive] a)nemi/dion. Plato in Theaetetus [writes]: "[...] it happens [to be] a productive little wind".[2]
Greek Original:
*)/anemos: to\ pneu=ma tou= a)ne/mou. kai\ to\ stoixei=on, e)n w(=| pne/ei o( a)/nemos. kai\ *)anemi/dion. *pla/twn e)n *qeaith/tw|: go/nimon a)nemi/dion tugxa/nei.
Notes:
[1] Likewise, according to Adler, in the Ambrosian Lexicon.
[2] Plato, Theaetetus 151E, but oddly garbled: not only is the word there the adjective a)nemiai=on, "windy", rather than the noun a)nemi/dion, but the Suda omits "or"; "[no matter whether] it happens to be productive or windy", i.e. empty. Same mistake at upsilon 424, from where this addendum to the present entry is copied.
