Grammarian. Husband of Pamphile,[1] to whom he attributed the histories. He wrote Orthography; Homeric Enquiries; a commentary on Menander; On Metres; On Comedy; a commentary on Euripides.
Greek Original:
*swthri/das, grammatiko/s, a)nh\r *pamfi/lhs, h(=| kai\ ta\s i(stori/as perih=yen. e)/grayen *)orqografi/an, *zhth/seis *(omhrika/s, u(po/mnhma ei)s *me/nandron, *peri\ me/trwn, *peri\ kwmw|di/as, ei)s *eu)ripi/dhn.
Notes:
[1] See pi 139 (Pamphile), where the husband's name is given as Socratidas, and Soteridas is the name of Pamphile's father: see sigma 876 (Soteridas), a likely reference to the same grammarian. Photius, Bibliotheca 175, 119B does not seem to know any doubt about the name of Pamphile's father.
This Soteridas is probably the grammarian referred to as Soteras in an Iliadic scholion; the variant also occurs, Adler reports, in Suda ms M.
