Adler number: sigma,1465
Translated headword: taking in pairs
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
Also [sc. attested is] sundua/sw ["I may join in a pair, I may couple"], [meaning] I may be yoked together, I may share, I may cooperate.[1]
But e)ndoia/zw ["I am in doubt"] [sc. is different].[2]
Greek Original:
*sunduasmo/s. kai\ *sundua/sw, suzeuxqw=, koinwnh/sw, sumpra/cw. *)endoia/zw de/.
Notes:
cf. ps.-Herodian. Hesychius sigma2458 glosses sunduasmo/s, the present (unglossed) headword, with suzugi/a "being yoked together."
[1] Likewise in the Synagoge (sigma329) and Photius (sigma748 Theodoridis), Etymologicum Magnum (commenting on Psalm 140.4 LXX); similar in the Ambrosian Lexicon (according to Adler) and Hesychius sigma2457 (s.v. sundua/zein). The lemma itself and the second and third glosses could be either future indicative or aorist subjunctive, but the first gloss is definitely aorist subjunctive; and in the Psalm it is probably subjunctive.
[2] cf. alpha 1709, alpha 1742, epsilon 1189.
