In the Epigrams: "and a single-soled shoe and a covering of [= for] a hairless head."[1] As it seems, he means a comb.
Greek Original:
*sugxi/da: e)n *)epigra/mmasi: kai\ mono/pelmon sugxi/da kai\ stegana\n krato\s e)rhmoko/mou. w(s e)/oike, kte/na le/gei.
Note:
[1] Greek Anthology 6.294.3-4 (Phanias). The headword, extracted from the verse (a list of things dedicated to Hermes by a superannuated pedagogue), is accusative singular of the otherwise-unattested feminine noun sugxi/s. The lexicographer's gloss (cf. kappa 2513, kappa 2515) cannot, surely, apply to that but to the second item mentioned. Find further excerpts from this epigram at kappa 1663, nu 37, and pi 854; cf. Gow and Page (vol. I, 162) and (vol. II, 465-467). Gow and Page suggest (vol. II, 467) that the single-soled shoe might have lost a layer of leather and had served the schoolmaster--along with several of the other dedicated items--as a tool for administering corporal punishment to his pupils.
