Adler number: rho,215
Translated headword: makes a rushing noise
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning he/she/it] rushes forth.
Greek Original:
*(roqei=: o(rmei=.
Notes:
Same entry in the Synagoge (rho45) and Photius' Lexicon (rho139 Theodoridis). The headword (evidently quoted from somewhere) is third person singular, present indicative active, of the verb r(oqe/w. By its sense, the gloss would seem to be from o(rma/w, though its form appears to belong to o(rme/w "lie at anchor." Manuscript G, as reported by Adler, and Hesychius in fact read o(rma=|; Theodoridis obelizes the -ei= in Photius.
cf. generally rho 216, rho 218, and esp. rho 220.
