Headword: *proskunei=
Adler number: pi,2747
Translated headword: kow-tows
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning he/she/it] approaches.
Greek Original:
*proskunei=: proseggi/zei.
Note:
Probably a conflation of two entries in the Suda's source(s). In Hesychius epsilon3832 we find proskunei=: prospi/ptei ('kow-tows: falls towards') and in epsilon3833 proskurei=: proseggi/zei ('arrives at: approaches'). In other words the Suda presents here the headword of the first entry with the gloss of the second. As Latte notes, the second entry (= also Synagoge epsilon696) probably derives from commentary to Aeschylus, Choephoroi 13, where that entry's headword occurs. The headword of the present entry is present indicative active, third person singular, of proskunw=. See also pi 2748.
