Aristophanes [writes]: "I am mixed with such a potent daemon." Meaning one who brings me many evils at one time; or a wily one. [sc. The adjective comes] from wine which can take a lot of water. That is, [with a daemon] unmixed and strong in respect to evil: for they used to call polufo/ros the [wine] which accepted a large mixture [of water], but o)ligofo/ros ["bearing little"] that which accepted little. Or [it is said] metaphorically from the flowers of trees.
