Headword: *oi)=os
Adler number: omicroniota,152
Translated headword: alone
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] only.[1] From i)/os, whence [come] both i)/a and mi/a.[1] But i)/os [comes] from su/ ["thou"], i)/, i)/os. Or from ei(=s.[2]
Greek Original:
*oi)=os: mo/nos. para\ to\ i)/os: e)c ou(= kai\ i)/a kai\ mi/a. i)/os de\ a)po\ tou= su/: i)/: i)/os. h)\ a)po\ tou= ei(=s.
Notes:
[1] cf. omicroniota 151, omicroniota 189.
[2] i)/a (iota 1) and mi/a are unrelated forms used in different dialects for the feminine nominative singular of ei(=s "one" (epsiloniota 218). From i)/os the dative i)w=| is attested in epic; with i)/a, this probably comes from the pronominal stem i- as in Latin is, id. See LSJ s.v. ei(=s. It is not clear what the personal pronoun su/ and the particle (?) i)/ are doing here.
Kuster would delete the last sentence of this entry (from i)/os to ei(=s).
