Headword: *)ore/gei
Adler number: omicron,525
Translated headword: reaches out
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning he/she/it] extends/proffers.[1]
Greek Original:
*)ore/gei: pare/xei.
Notes:
The headword, evidently extracted from somewhere, is the present indicative active, third person (and present indicative middle/passive, second person) singular, of the verb o)re/gw (I stretch out, reach out, grant); cf. omicron 529 and see LSJ s.v. The entry might be generated from an instance of the headword verb's aorist subjunctive active, third person singular form (o)re/ch|, he/she/it might grant) at Homer, Iliad 5.33 (web address 1) or from the corresponding scholion (see next note). There Athena presses Ares to leave the battle to the Trojans and Achaeans themselves, in order that they not interfere with how Zeus might extend glory to whatever fighting side earns his endorsement. [In her critical apparatus, Adler notes that mss AS transmit the unattested o)re/xei.]
[1] From the verb pare/xw (I hold over; see LSJ s.v.), the gloss is the same grammatical form as the headword. The headword is identically glossed in Hesychius omicron1128, the Synagoge, Lexica Segueriana 319.30, and Photius' Lexicon (omicron448 Theodoridis). A scholion (= D scholia) to Homer, Iliad 5.33 (web address 1) glosses the subjunctive form of the headword therein (see principal note) with the optative mood corresponding to the gloss, para/sxoi. The first person singular forms of the headword verb and gloss are given by ps.-Zonaras 1469.
