Headword: *(olkeu=sin
Adler number: omicron,172
Translated headword: with tow-ropes
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
"The Trojans secured it with many tow-ropes and cables and, as it had wheels underneath, began to haul it into the city."[1]
Greek Original:
*(olkeu=sin: oi( de\ *trw=es o(lkeu=si polloi=s kai\ a)rth/masin e)na/yantes u(po/troxon o)/nta ei(=lkon ei)s th\n po/lin.
Notes:
The headword phrase is presumably extracted from the quotation (though only the former has nu ephelkustikon).
[1] Tiberius Hemsterhuys (1685-1766) connected this quotation with epsilon 1568 (q.v.), and Bernhardy attributed it to Nicolaus of Damascus (on whom see generally nu 393). Be that as it may, it presumably describes the Trojans' unsuspecting response to the eponymous Horse.
