[Meaning] disturbance/disruption.
*)/oxlos: h( taraxh/.
Both headword and gloss are words used by
Epicurus and are in close connection: “the mob” (
o)/xlos) can be a cause of disturbance (
taraxh/, the opposite of one of the “katastematic” or stable pleasures: “freedom of disturbance”,
a)taraci/a). The term “mob” appears in
Vatican Saying 67 where
Epicurus recommends that, in order to reach a free life, one has to avoid acquiring great wealth, because the task is not easy without slavery to the mob or those in power. See also
Vatican Saying 81; cf.
omicron 1054.
