Greek Original:
*ma/ntis, genikw=s, quosko/oi i(erh=es ei)dikw=s. o(/ti e)/stin a)kri\s duski/nhtos, xlwra/, kaloume/nh ma/ntis, h(=stinos prose/xontes tai=s kinh/sesi manteu/ontai.
[1] The allusion is to Homer, Iliad 24.221, where i(erh=es occurs in the cited epic plural: "whether of seers that divine from sacrifice (ma/nties quosko/oi) or of priests (i(erh=es)". The lexicographer is attempting to set up an opposition between the two terms; cf. theta 591 (and mu 168 already for mantis).
[2] Repeated from alpha 3990 (q.v.).
