"All Achaea [is] your monument, Euripides; surely [you are] not muted, but even worthy of mention."
Greek Original:
*lalhte/os: a(/pas' *)axaii\+s mnh=ma so/n, *eu)ripi/dh: ou)/koun a)/fwnos, a)lla\ kai\ lalhte/os.
Notes:
Greek Anthology 7.47, attributed to Thucydides the historian.
The poet seems to use a)/fwnos 'having no voice' virtually as a passive, as lalhte/os, the verbal formed from lale/w clearly is. The verb lale/w (lambda 80) is used in later Greek not as 'chatter', 'babble', but simply as 'speak' or 'say'.
'Achaia' is, in the archaic way, Greece (cf. alpha 4680).
