Translated headword: plague, pestilence
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] the corrupter.
Greek Original:
*loimo/s: o( fqoreu/s.
Notes:
A marginal addition, Adler reports, in ms M (and positioned after lambda 840 in mss PV).
From ps.-Herodian, Epimerismi 80, which is probably behind Eustathius' comments on Homer, Iliad 1.67 (1.80). fqoreu/s seems an oddly personal word to use as a gloss (nouns in -eus generally denote personal agents), but ps.-Herodian and Eustathius seem to treat it as a simple adjective meaning "causing corruption/death". On the other hand, given the personified usage of the headword we find at lambda 759 it is difficult to know what the Suda contributor had in mind.
