[1] Greek Anthology 6.47.2-3 (attributed to Antipater of Sidon); Bitto, having decided to turn hetaera (cf. epsilon 3265 and epsilon 3266), abandons her harsh weaving craft and dedicates her kerkis (cf. kappa 1600) to Athena; cf. Gow and Page (vol. I, 25-26) and (vol. II, 67-68). Gow and Page note (vol. II, 67) that both Giovanni Setti (1856-1910) and Hugo Stadtm├╝ller (1845-1906) argued that the epigram's author is in fact Antipater of Thessalonica. Toward defending the alternative attribution, Setti contended that 6.47 is indeed pornographic, unlike any of the Sidonian's other epigrams (ibid.). Nonetheless, Gow and Page find none of these arguments to be convincing; they continue to locate this epigram, with some reservations, among the others attributed to the Sidonian (vol. II, 68).
