Adler number: lambda,483
Translated headword: trickle, stream
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning a] drip, spring, moist place.[1]
In the Epigrams: "and drips, and these herdman's drinking-cups."[2]
Greek Original:
*liba/da: stago/na, krh/nhn, e)/nudron to/pon. e)n *)epigra/mmasi: kai\ liba/des, kai\ tau=ta bothrika\ ku/pella.
Notes:
[1] Likewise or similarly in other lexica: see the references at Photius lambda289 Theodoridis. The headword is accusative singular of the noun liba/s (lambda 484). It must be quoted from somewhere (other than the quotation which follows, where it is nominative plural); there are numerous possibilities.
[2] Greek Anthology 6.170.3 (Thyillus); cf. beta 405, kappa 2735. On this epigram, a dedication to Pan, see Page (96) and its further excerpts at alpha 1740 and tau 84. The Suda follows the Anthologia Palatina here in transmitting kai\ liba/des, but Page (ibid.)--observing that the other objects named in the dedication have a definite article or an equivalent demonstrative--adopts a suggestion of A.D. Schaefer (German historian and classical scholar, 1819-1883) and reads xai) ("the drips").
